The Year One teacher is Miss Moore and the children will be further supported by Mrs Smeija and Mrs Thatcher.
In year 1, we are learning about Victorian and modern-day toys and the similarities and differences between them. For English, we have focused our writing on our current class book ‘Traction Man’. Soon, we will be writing about our own fantastic superheros! In science, we are learning about plants and are continuing our work on the four season. Children had an adventurous investigation into the effects of snow which the children enjoyed!
Our topic seems rather appropriate with all of this cold weather! Children have been learning all about polar bears and penguins and have shown wonderful enthusiasm for their topic. This links in nicely with out writing about Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and will soon lead to our very own penguin non-chronological reports.

In Year 1 we have been continuing our work on the Three Little pigs. Since after half term we have been busy rehearsing the story and this week we have just started writing the story and some of the writing looks fantastic so far! We have just finished off our Autumn journals and we are hoping that we can have parents in soon to share our journals and also to perform our autumn poem that we have been learning. A date for this will be confirmed in the near future.
As always please make sure your child is completing their homework which is handed out every Friday. This always directly links to what we have been covering throughout the week so it a good opportunity for you to support your child at home.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great half term. We have been really busy in Year 1 already and have just started our new topic The Three Little Pigs. A big well done to all the children who have brought in their Three Little Pigs home projects already. They look fantastic and we have been enjoying sharing our work with everyone. Please check back for some photos of our work soon.
