SMSC and British Values

At Fernhill Primary School, we want our pupils to be able to distinguish between right and wrong; to accept responsibility for their behaviour and to make a positive contribution to their school and wider society.

We believe that education should develop each child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full, and must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

Our School Rules –

Together we are:

  • kind
  • helpful
  • truthful
  • sensible
  • respectful
  • hardworking

are linked to our Behaviour Policy and also support an awareness of spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues as part of their daily life in school.

At our school, understanding of SMSC issues are developed through: teaching and learning, and curriculum planning and resourcing; school culture and environment; the development of partnerships with parents, carers and the local community; giving pupils a voice through the school council; and listening to the views of both staff and parents.
