Curriculum

A variety of teaching and learning styles are used, including whole class, group activities and individual work. This allows the individual needs of the children to be catered for by both teaching and support staff.

All staff plan the work for the children using detailed schemes of work that have been devised to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum, and also build on previous work.

Teachers and support staff work closely together to ensure that this approach delivers continuity for every child.  Additional keep up /catch up session are provided by the teaching staff in some subject areas to ensure that children have a good understanding in core subjects.  Support staff also provide additional intervention sessions for target children, identified by the class teacher.

The National Curriculum is composed of the core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science, supported by the foundation subjects of Computing and Communication Technology (ICT), History, Geography, Music, Physical Education, Art and Design, and, Design and Technology. Religious Education is taught following the Hampshire syllabus.

In addition to this, a modern foreign language, currently French, is taught across Key Stage Two.

These subjects will be taught in many ways; we try to ensure that our curriculum is creative and stimulating and as far as possible these subjects will be linked together into a themed topic.

The school uses the government approved Read, Write Inc Phonics Scheme.
