What a fantastic book this is!

This year, we have been reading an interesting book called James and the giant peach.  The author is Roald Dahl.   We have all enjoyed reading this book.

These are some of our best bits:

  • When James met all of the fascinating creatures.
  • When the peach squashed the nasty aunts.
  • When the creatures were arguing inside of the peach.

All of Roald Dahl’s books make us feel really happy because he is the funniest writer ever.

Enjoying a good read.

Learning our times tables.

We have been learning our times tables using Times Tables Rockstars.  It is a mathematical game that is helping us to learn our times tables.  You get lots of game coins every time you play, which you can use to create your own rock star.  We are trying to improve our scores so that we can be the fastest in the whole school.

What a strange week we have had!  Snow on Monday and glorious sunshine today.  The children have been working very hard on their non-chronological reports and I have been very proud of them.   Please ask them about their work.

Today we started our science week with an interesting experiment.  We worked with children from other year groups.   We had to explore what happens to red cabbage water when we add different liquids to it.   The most spectacular change was when we added lemon juice.

Today we celebrated world book day.  We were a little bit late because of all of the snow.  We really loved all of the costumes.

Yesterday we had a visit from the chicks, which the early years class have been looking after.  We were all able to have a little cuddle with one of the chicks.

Thank-you to all the parents for coming in and helping us celebrate world maths day.  I know that the children loved it and I hope that you did too.

Welcome back Year 2! We are starting the term with a new book. Children will be reading “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown. I’m sure the children will be looking forward to hearing about Stanley’s adventures!

We have been busy writing a diary entry from the point of view of the main character in ‘Journey’.

Today we got together in our teams and made paper chains to help decorate the school.  It was lovely being able to work with our brothers and sisters.

Last Monday we had a visit from Hampshire Fire Service.  We all enjoyed learning a little bit more about fire safety.

In class we have been learning how to write exclamatory sentences.    We all had a go at writing an exclamatory sentence for Winnie the witch.

We have started this term by reading the poem, Tell Me a Dragon by Jackie Morris.

The children have really enjoyed creating  their own dragons and using  descriptive phrases to describe them.

Welcome back to school. I hope that you have had a lovely half term.

During the term we will be learning a little bit more about the Great fire of London and will be finding out all about fire breathing dragons.

Welcome to Year 2!

The children have come back to school showing real enthusiasm for learning and the year ahead. It’s been a wonderful day and I have really enjoyed teaching your children!
