The Year Three teacher is Miss Swales and the children will be further supported by Mrs Chalkley and Miss Cook.
Information for parents:
Updated shields! What amazing, authentic decorations!
Only a few more steps until the children are finished. Well done Year 3.
The children have been hard at work making and designing their Roman shields. Have a look at how brilliant they look!
So far, the children have taken away the sharp edges of the cardboard, painted the back of the shield grey and the front red. This week, the children added half a polystyrene ball on the front of the shield to create the illusion of a metallic ball. You’ll have to check here next week to see what happens next!
Welcome back Year 3! The children are starting work on their Roman topic by learning about the Roman army. Many of the children have been interested in creating their own shields. Watch this space!
World Book Day!
What a wonderful day today! We were lucky enough to have parents in today to complete our World Maths Day activities. I certainly believe the children were excited to have everyone close to them here at school, so thank you everyone for coming. Here are some pictures to show what we got up to.
Today was a very exciting day! We got the opportunity to meet the chicks that hatched in Year R last week. The children loved being able to meet them and hold them.
Year 3 have been very lucky to have Listen2me with Mrs Jenkins for this term. They have been enjoying the keyboards! Here is a picture of all of them working hard on there recent Lullaby piece. Keep up the great work Year 3!
Welcome back! Before half term, we started to read a new book called “The Conquerors” by David McKee. I hope Year 3 are looking forward to reading the rest of it this week! Then we are going to use this book as a stimulus for our writing.
Children have been putting their journalistic skills to the test; they’ve written informative newspaper articles about the events within our whole school book, ‘Journey’.
The children have been telling me all about their fun week off. Now they are very much looking forward to starting our new topic of the Stone Age. We are starting off with a new book in English. This book is called “Stone Age Boy” by Satoshi Kitamura. The children have really enjoyed it so far, as have the adults! They have almost learned the story by heart now, so they just need to continue to practise with their specific hand movements and with the correct intonation. I am looking forward to the final performance, in class, already. After that, they are going to write their own version of Stone Age Boy with some changes. Can’t wait to read them Year 3!
It’s almost half term, so the children have been very excited about their week off. This week the children have worked hard on their final non-chronological reports. They have been using the laptops to type up their work and show their best word processing skills. I have been very impressed with the outcome and can’t wait to finish the BFG display that will be going up in the hall after half term, to show off their whizz-popping writing! Well done Year 3.
This week the children have been hard at work! They have been gathering lots of description and ideas for their BFG diary writing unit. We have watched the newest BFG film to compare the story book and the film too. They have also been learning more about a growth mindset in maths, as well as beginning to recap Number and Place value. I have been very impressed with the children after their first music lesson with Mrs C Jenkins from Hampshire Music Service. They are going to learn lots about the ukulele this term, I can’t wait for the assembly already! Keep up the hard work Year 3!
