School Meals

Hampshire County Council Catering Services (HC3S) is the main provider of educational catering within Hampshire.

If you would like to see the meals currently being served for school meals please click on the link – school menus.  The cost of a meal is currently £2.30.  The kitchen also offers healthy snacks costing 30p.

All children in KS1 are entitled to free school meals under the Government’s Universal scheme.

School meals are cooked onsite and there is a choice of one meat or one vegetarian option every day.  An additional option of jacket potatoes with various fillings are also offered during the Autumn and Spring terms, with Picnic bags offered during the Summer term. Each morning, the children choose which meal they want.  Meals can be paid for in advance or on the day.

Children may bring a packed lunch to school, but it must be in a secure, labelled container.  For reasons of safety, drinks need to be in unbreakable containers.  Parents and carers need to provide a healthy packed lunch.

Children are allowed to bring fruit juice or fruit squash into school for lunchtime, but water is always provided in the lunch hall.  Fizzy drinks are not allowed.

Children drink water during the rest of the school day.

It is important that NO NUTS or nut products are brought into school, as we have a number of children with severe allergies.

If a child forgets to bring in their packed lunch, and it is not possible to contact parents, a school lunch will be supplied for the usual cost of a meal.

In order to pay for your child’s school meals or snacks you will need to register with Tucasi.  When your child joins Fernhill Primary School, they will be allocated a registration and security code in order that their account may be set up.

If your child has special dietary needs, please call into the School Office and we will arrange a meeting with the Head of the Kitchen in order that these needs can be accommodated.

Parents receiving certain benefits may also be able to claim for free school meals for their children. If you would like to have a look to see if your particular circumstances qualify you for free school meals for your children please click  free school meals information.

Please do not hesitate to come into the School Office and ask for further details  – enquiries will be dealt with sensitively.  You can complete an online application to check for eligibility.
